The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) is moving towards more co-management, co-research, and "shared stewardship" with fish harvesters. People in the fisheries will play a bigger part in running them.
The Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters (DFO) offers a handbook created in 2008, that gives a brief introduction to the workings of fisheries science and management for commercial fisheries. It deals mostly with sea fisheries falling under DFO's authority.
Statistics in this document come mainly from federal and provincial fishery websites as well as other sources which are detailed in the book.
