It is with a heavy heart that the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvester (CCPFH) shares the sad news of the passing of Donald Assu on July 21st, 2015 after a brief illness. The CCPFH has been informed that his funeral will be held at Cape Mudge on Saturday July 25th, 2015. Specific details are not available to us at this time.
Donald Assu was selected to be an Honorary Member of the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters because of his outstanding contributions to the fish harvesting industry. This honor was bestowed on him in 1997 in Halifax at the first General Assembly of the Canadian Council of Professional Fish Harvesters. While he retired from the fish harvesting industry in 2010 Mr. Assu continued to contribute to his community as President of the local Nyumbalees Museum.
