On May 27, 2012, the CCPFH reached out to fish harvesters across the country in an exciting new way. We launched a video series on YouTube. The videos were of fish harvesters, the work they do, the passion they have for their work and the challenges they face. These are the people the CCPFH represents. These are the people we listen to and tailor our work to. We hoped through this series, that we could connect with other fish harvesters across the country and overseas. Now, just over five years later, this little video series has accumulated over 6.2 million views and has been included in several film festivals!
Every day an average of over 5,000 people watch the Canadian fish harvesting industry series. People across the world are seeing the fisheries through the lens of Canadian fish harvesters. They see the diversity of the catch and of the people of the industry. What is most interesting is seeing the messages left praising fish harvesters for their hard work, dedication and their awe of the amazing work they do. They leave questions for our fish harvesters and many people from other countries inquire about how they could possibly have an opportunity to fish like the men and women in our videos.
After five years, most videos fade from popularity, people pass on to new and exciting things but the series has had enduring interest.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to see the videos yet, have a look. Want to know more about who we are and what we do, we’ve got a video for that too – it has all of our wonderful fish harvesters from the video series too.
